You thought creepers were bad, but you haven't seen anything yet. The nether is a dangerous place surrounded with lava and fatal monsters, but you can find netherack, nether quartz, nether brick, soul sand, and glowstone here. To get here, you need to build a nether portal ( look in the link above in crafting and building for instructions on how to build it ) and pass through, stand in it, to arrive. Once there, you should automatically build a cobblestone shelter around your portal so nothing disables it, or if anything does, bring a flint and steel just in case. The monsters in the nether include fire spitting blazes, fireball shooting ghasts, allied zombie pigman ( these are neutral unless you attack one, then all pigman in the area attack you with their golden swords ), melting magma cubes, and poisonous nether skeletons.
Make sure to keep your valuables at home since this is such a dangerous place. Any Item that drops if you die has a chance of getting destroyed since there is lava and fire everywhere, so don't bring bare diamonds just because you can. Most likely when you are not underground, many monsters will be visible. Ghasts are the most common enemy in the nether that will attack you on sight, shooting exploding fireballs at you. You have to be careful, but you can hit these back at it, killing it, and it usually drops a ghast tear and/or glowstone.
The main reason for the nether is the nether fortress, containing blazes, nether skeletons, and Ghasts right outside. On the inside, you can find nether warts ( for potion making ), chests containing valuable supplies, and blaze rods from killing blazes. Maps don't exactly work in the nether, so always know where your portal is or make some sort of beacon, telling its' location. Take your supplies and leave as quick as possible, this place is really easy to die in whether it's from incineration, explosion, or murder. Once you make it back, start preparing for the adventures of the end.
